The Green Filter
Mooch offers customers the unique opportunity to search for images that have been sourced using more environmentally and climate friendly means. In the long term, this will hopefully make a positive impact one the people and places that support our industry.
How is it done?
It is achieved by allowing customers to filter image searches by:
A) Whether the contributing photographers took no flights when travelling to or from the destination where the photograph was taken.
B) The photographer/mooch has carbon offset the plane travel involved in the photographs production.
On the resulting thumbnails, images that required no flights are marked with .
Those where transport has been Carbon Offset are marked with .
When our photographers add an image to the catalogue, they specify whether no flights were taken or whether the trip has been carbon offset.
Why is this important?
When we take a flight, CO2 is added into the atmosphere. These emissions add to climate change. The potential effects of climate change are extremely serious, and although they will impact on everyone they will most drastically effect poorer nations who are less well equipped to respond. These are quite often the very places that have kindly welcomed Mooch, and other travel photographers, allowing us to do what we do.
Choosing images that required no flights in their production also goes someway to supporting local photographers.
What is Carbon Offsetting?
CO2 is a greenhouse gas that is released when fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal are burnt. Offsetting means paying someone to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere on your behalf. In that way we can pay for the damage we are causing and the money helps to fund transition to a lower-carbon world.
